Message from the chairman, Sue Whitty
This is an important year for the club as we are actively looking to raise funds to re-surface the courts and hopefully extend them as well. A massive amount of work has been going on over the past year by the committee to enable this to happen. Specifically we have re-negotiated the lease with the Parish Council and that in itself was a marathon task as there were several clauses which became sticking points; but we have now signed a new 10 year lease on terms that your committee is comfortable with. We have also submitted an application for a grant to part-fund the essential court resurfacing project with an option to extend the length of the courts providing extra run-off for safer play. This has involved the whole committee giving up a lot of their time to submit a credible bid. If the bid is unsuccessful we will need to look at cheaper alternatives limited to resurfacing. Either way the works will take place after the club finals in September.
In November the courts were in such a bad state, covered in moss, that we had to temporarily close them until they had been treated. That work has now been completed by Colourworks free of charge as they were trialling a new product and the courts are now playable again.
Your Club now needs the support of all the members to make it a successful season in which we hope to increase the profile of the Club. You will see later in the newsletter dates to set aside for you to get more involved to help to make your Club more active as a place to meet and enjoy social and competitive tennis regardless of your tennis ability.
Subscriptions
Following feedback at the AGM the committee has taken the decision to increase subscriptions by approximately 10% this year but leaving junior fees unchanged. The increase will help to put the club on a firm financial footing ensuring that future court resurfacing costs can be covered by the Club. However we are confident that annual subscriptions remain excellent value in comparison with similar club facilities.
Adult membership will be £50, couples £90, juniors (11 and under) £15, 12-18 £20, student £25, family (with children up to 18) £105 and a new coaching- only membership £25. (This allows access to coaching at member’s rates).
You will find on your membership forms there is a box to indicate which weekday evening you would prefer the club session to be, please give this some thought as it could boost the numbers. If there is just one per week it would be great if more people come regularly.
